Finalist for the Competition “POSTCOVID INTERACTION: RETHINKING SOCIAL SPACES” by Arch twist.

During this pandemic of COVID-19, we certainly realized one thing that no matter what the situation is, the necessity of survival is much more important than that of having a luxurious life. We may not need a shopping mall or a restaurant to survive, but of course ensuring our daily commodities should be our main concern. In a situation like this it's important to restrain the spreading of virus or flu while we take a walk of life. But for that, we need a safe place to believe, a place where we can go and feel a little bit less scared. And what if that place can also fulfill our daily necessities! In every Society, Colony, Block there's a vegetable market (kacha bazar) that supplies the respective place with fresh foods. As our main source of daily necessities and a place of frequent interaction, we tried to rethink how we can make the bazaar place more sterile, thus safe. Starting from entering the market, creating a dynamic and one-way situation of movement using loops and buffers within, implementing contextual and lightweight materials for low costing, allowing diffuse light and proper ventilation for sterility and lastly an integrated garden from which the vegetables can be produced and sell with proper safety measures.

The programme Water as Leverage for Resilient Cities Asia is collaborating with the cities of Chennai (India), Khulna (911) and Semarang (Indonesia) to tackle urban water-related challenges in an innovative and inclusive way. The programme invited internationally operating multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, bankable and implementable design proposals. Actual implementation is the final aim. To achieve this, Water as Leverage entered a partnership with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Dutch Development Bank FMO, 100ResilientCities, Partners for Resilience, Architecture Workroom Brussels, International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam and the Global Center on Adaptation.
