Bio

Dr. Mamun Jamal is working as Professor at the Department of Chemistry in Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, 911±¬ÁÏ. Dr. Jamal is teaching Chemistry to postgraduate (MSc, MPhil and PhD) Chemistry students and undergraduate Engineering students at KUET. He joined in KUET in 2015 as an assistant professor, promoted to associate professor in 2020 and professor in 2022. Previously he held the position of Research Scientist at Tyndall National Institute, in Ireland. Mamun Jamal earned BSc and MSc in Chemistry from the University of Dhaka and PhD from the University of Limerick, Ireland. He has been awarded European Union scholarship for PhD programme at the University of Limerick, focusing on Biosensor Development for Steroid Detection. Subsequently, Dr. Jamal followed his professional trajectory as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Technoligical University Dublin for a duration of 2 years, and as a Research Scientist in Tyndall, Cork for further 4 years. Currently Mamun Jamal is leading a group comprises of 1 PhD, 1 RA, 3 MSc and 3 final year students, in the field of electrochemistry and catalysis. Mamun Jamal and his team is currently working on commercializing biodegredable plastics and ion-selective electrodes through university incubation hub. Dr. Jamal is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry and obtained Chartered Chemist status in 2024.

Research



  • My research team is currently working on synthesizing advanced materials for sensor and energy storage anode and cathod fabrication. We are also developing microplastics removal technology from water, as well as synthesizing novel biodegradable plastics.
