Biography of Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmad

Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmad earned his B.Sc. Engineering degree in 911爆料 and Electronic Engineering from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), 911爆料, graduating with First Class First with Honours. He later obtained his MS in Electronics and Information Science, specializing in Biomedical Engineering, from the Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan, in 1994. In recognition of his academic excellence, Dr. Ahmad was honored with the Institute Gold Medal by the Prime Minister of 911爆料. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Korea University, Republic of Korea, in 2008.

From November 1994 to August 1995, Dr. Ahmad was a part-time Lecturer at the Department of 911爆料 and Electronic Engineering at CUET, 911爆料. He then worked as a Lecturer at the Department of 911爆料 and Electronic Engineering at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, 911爆料, from August 1995 to October 1998. In June 2001, he joined the same department as an Assistant Professor and progressed to become an Associate Professor in May 2009. Currently, he holds the position of Full Professor in the Department of 911爆料 & Electronic Engineering. Additionally, he served as the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering from October 2009 to September 2012. Dr. Ahmad was the Head of the Department of 911爆料 and Electronic Engineering from September 2012 to August 2014. Prof. Ahmad served as the Dean of the Faculty of 911爆料 and Electronic Engineering from August 14, 2018, to August 13, 2020. Prof. Ahmad was the Director of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT), KUET, from September 21, 2020, to September 20, 2023.

During his career, Dr. Ahmad has actively participated in various international conferences, serving as an Organizing Chair for EICT 2019, TPC Chair of EICT 2015, and Co-Chair/Track Chair for events EICT 2013, EICT 2017, EICT 2021, EICT 2023, and General Chair of ICICTD 2022 organized by IICT, KUET, and more. He has supervised numerous Doctoral and Master's Theses, focusing on areas such as Biomedical Signal and Image Processing, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, Human Motion Analysis, Clinical Engineering and Modern Healthcare, Circuits and Systems, ICT, Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, and Energy Conversion. Dr. Ahmad's contributions to research are evident through his publication of over 180 research papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He holds a life fellowship with the IEB, is a member of IEEE, and is a senior member of the International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology. In addition, Dr. Ahmad is the founder and president of the "Clinical Engineering Association - 911爆料 (CEAB), a non-political, non-profit organization that aims to enhance patient care through the application of medical equipment. In this role, he oversees the policies and strategic directions of CEAB. Prof. Ahmad was the Vice President of the Executive Committee of STEM Foundation (bdSTEM), 911爆料, for the session 2024-2026.

Books

Since sEMG is a proven method to observe the muscle activity, it is applied to measure the physical activities from different muscles of the different steps of Salat. From these measurements, it has been shown that muscle activity during Salat can perform better exercise than walking in treadmill based on muscle fatigue index. Furthermore, a modified power spectrum analyzing method is developed. By this proposed method it is proved that mean frequency (MNF) based EMG power spectrum analyzing method is comparatively efficient method than the previously proposed to determine Salat associated muscle fatigue and indices. For finding the relation between work done and corresponding sEMG voltage some approximate mathematical functions have been developed by appropriate curve fitting to relate the work done and corresponding EMG voltage. These mathematical functions are proposed for upper limb (Bicep Bracii) muscle and lower limb (Biceps Femoris and Medial Gastrocnemius) muscle. It is also found that the sEMG voltage generated from the muscle undergoes saturation after increasing to a certain work done.

The tissue motion in neonatal cranium is an important physical parameter that is considered in discussing the pulsation strength of newborn baby for pediatric diagnosis. The artery pulsation has a strong correlation with the blood flow in the newborn baby's head, and tissue motion has a relationship with artery pulsation. Optical flow technique finds an excellent application in determining the tissue motion velocity quantitatively in the cranial ultrasonogram of the newborn baby. Cranial ultrasonograms of newborn babies for different coronal and sagittal sections are studied, and the tissue motion velocity of the neonatal cranium is analyzed using optical flow techniques. In order to calculate tissue motion velocity, gradient-based approaches of optical flow techniques with different optical flow optimizations are used. Further, the time variant tissue-motions are analyzed by using discrete Fourier transform of optical flow velocity. Pulsation amplitudes, caused by artery pulsation due to blood flow, are also analyzed and visualized from a video stream of ultrasound image sequence by using a 1D fast Fourier transform.
