Bio

Dr. Md. Arifuzzaman is a distinguished Professor and a leading researcher in Mechanical Engineering at the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), 911±¬ÁÏ. Recognized for his groundbreaking work in advanced composite materials, he has established an international reputation for translating fundamental research into sustainable engineering solutions.
Dr. Arifuzzaman’s research portfolio is characterized by its innovation and practical impact. He has pioneered the development of lightweight, fire-resistant composite foams and sandwich panels from industrial by-products like expanded perlite and agro-wastes, directly contributing to energy-efficient building technologies. His current research thrusts include leveraging machine learning algorithms to predict material properties and designing energy-absorbing metamaterials, positioning his work at the forefront of computational and experimental mechanics.
His scholarly impact is significant and evidenced by a prolific publication record of over 70 papers in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. This body of work has not only advanced academic knowledge but has also been recognized with multiple Best Paper Awards. His research excellence has been consistently supported by competitive grants, underscoring the value and potential of his investigations.
As an educator, Dr. Arifuzzaman is deeply committed to academic excellence and mentorship. He has shaped the curriculum by developing new courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has guided the research of numerous students, successfully supervising over 30 undergraduate projects and 6 postgraduate theses. His teaching prowess is complemented by his leadership in pedagogical innovation, having been trained by the British Council and conducted specialized workshops on Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
A respected leader in academic administration, Dr. Arifuzzaman currently serves as the Founding Director of the Modern Equipment and Research Center (MERC) at KUET, where he is architecting a state-of-the-art facility to serve as a nexus for advanced research, industry collaboration, and training. His visionary leadership was previously demonstrated in his role as Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), where he drove university-wide initiatives in quality assurance and accreditation.
His academic journey is marked by outstanding merit. He is a recipient of the Prime Minister's Gold Medal for graduating first in his undergraduate class. His doctoral studies at the University of Newcastle, Australia, were fully funded by prestigious international scholarships, and his research was further honored with a Postgraduate Research Prize.
An active member of the global academic community, Dr. Arifuzzaman serves as an Executive Editor for an international journal and as a trusted reviewer for leading publications from Elsevier, Springer-Nature, and IOP Science. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers, 911±¬ÁÏ (IEB), and continues to foster international research collaborations with institutions in Australia and industry partners in 911±¬ÁÏ.
