Jahirul Islam is a faculty member in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), where he integrates his mechanical engineering background with a specialized focus on materials science. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at KUET with distinction and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering at the same university.
Mr. Islam’s research focuses on molecular dynamics, density functional theory, nanomaterials and thin films, materials characterization, and energy materials. His research contributions have been published in reputable journals like Materials Today Communications, Physics B: Condensed Matter, and Emergent Materials. In his teaching role, he has developed and taught a wide range of courses, including Computational Materials Science, Engineering Alloys, Mechanical Behavior of Materials, Materials for Energy conversion, and Transport Phenomena in Materials. His mentorship extends to supervising undergraduate thesis projects in areas such as optoelectronic technology, energy storage solutions, and the mechanical behaviors of two-dimensional materials.
Beyond the classroom, Mr. Islam is committed to fostering a vibrant academic community at KUET. He serves as the moderator of the MetaMaterials Club at KUET, a student-led organization dedicated to advancing technical skills, research methodologies, and career planning. Under his guidance, the club organizes workshops, seminars, and mentorship programs, fostering a supportive community for aspiring engineers and researchers in materials science. He also serves as the president of the Students’ Association of Materials Science and Engineering (SAMSE), where he advocates for student engagement, academic support, and professional development.
